Emperor – Eastern Roman Empire
The Eastern Roman Empire was the continuation of the Roman
Empire in the East during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, when its capital
city was Constantinople. It survived the fragmentation and fall of the Western
Roman Empire in the 5th century AD and continued to exist for an additional
thousand years until it fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1453. The empire was a
very important political and military force during the crusades.
Pretender –
There are several pretenders to the throne but the one with best right is the
head of the Russian Imperial House, Maria Vladimirovna, a descendant of
Nicholas I's eldest son Emperor Alexander II (1855–1881).
