Castles – Krac des Chevaliers

Krac des Chevaliers (in Arabic Hisn al-Akrad), one of the strongest and most aesthetically satisfying of the castles built by the Christian rulers of Outremer. Given to the Knights Hospitallers in 1142, the knights began rebuilding the castle for the next 30 years. It fell to the Mamluks  in 1271.
